Land Stewardship

CHAMFER is designed to sit lightly on the land it’s built on — drawing less from the grid and giving more back to the ground around it. This page summarises the principles behind the unit.

Energy & water

Every unit is off-grid ready, with solar and water systems that work with or without the grid. This reduces reliance on utility connections and keeps running costs low.

Construction

The unit is a mild steel frame on a 150mm reinforced concrete slab with strip foundation, clad and roofed in grey box-profile G.I. sheet. Steel-frame construction means efficient material use and a fast, low-waste build process, with durable cladding and finishes chosen to weather well with minimal upkeep.

A garden-first plot

Landscaped surrounds keep the plot green rather than paved over, and the space around the unit works for a small kitchen garden. Research on peri-urban green space consistently links nearby greenery with lower stress and better mental health outcomes.

Siting, access and readiness for your plot are reviewed at the consultation stage described under Process & next steps. Questions about how this applies to a specific plot can be sent to talk@chamfer.co.ke.
